Weeping may endure for the night, but joy
comes in the morning.” ~Psalm 30:5

As a little girl in Washington Court House,
Ohio, Kathy envisioned a future as a nurse... or maybe a ballerina. It wasn’t until later that her true calling became clear: “When I was in seminary, people always came to my room to talk... I found that being present alongside people in their most vulnerable times was a tremendous privilege. I was smitten by the experience and it continues to be my passion.”

Today, Kathy’s career as a Pastoral Counselor continues to be
the most challenging and rewarding job she has ever had.

“But You, O LORD, are a God full of
compassion, and gracious, longsuffering
and abundant in mercy and truth.”
                                  ~ Psalm 86:15

As a six-year old child, Susan lost her mother to cancer. Her elementary school years were a time of turmoil and abuse. The effects followed her into adulthood. Through the hand of God, and the process of Christian counseling, she came to know God’s love for her, and healing came.

Susan discovered that she had the gift of compassion for hurting people. She used this gift to do ministerial counseling in the church, and in the community. However, it wasn’t until her children were grown that she went back to school and obtained her Masters degree in Counseling. Her desire is to have people know the freedom that she has experienced, and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.

“I believe counseling should address the whole person (mind, body, spirit, and community). Successful living is having all areas of your life in balance.” Susan is happily married to Robert, and they have five grown children. They are both actively involved in their local Church.

Susan’s areas of practice include: individuals, couples, groups, families with children, adolescents, and adults; Christian counseling, marital and parental issues, divorce recovery, life adjustment problems, financial concerns, domestic abuse, sexual assault, pre-marital preparation, grief and loss, anger management, mood and anxiety disorders and use of biblical principles in treatment.

Curriculum vitae: B.S., Business, Rutgers University; M.A., Counseling, Webster University. Licensed Professional Counselor; Member of American Association of Christian Counseling and American Counseling Association.

Jan Filipow
Staff Counselor

“For I know the plans I have for you… to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

After working as a registered nurse in her husband’s office for 21 years, Jan felt convinced that God had another plan for her to pursue. Soon afterwards, after working part-time in her home church office, she felt God tugging at her heart to obtain a degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling at Ashland Theological Seminary. And the rest is history!

“I have been amazed at the incredible struggles that some people have endured and how their lives have been transformed to wholeness and healing by someone else caring enough to come along side them and assisting them to be all they were created to be.” Counseling is indeed a privilege many have been called to. It certainly has been an honor to speak truth into the lives of others and to give them the future and hope they have been seeking.

Jan has also conducted “Transformational Prayer” small groups through First United Methodist Church in Newark, OH.

Curriculum Vitae: Registered nurse, Miami Valley School of Nursing, M.A. in Clinical Pastoral Counseling (LPC), Ashland Theological Seminary with two-year internship at Smetzer Counseling Center in Ashland, OH. Member of American Academy of Christian Counselors.
